Australian Manufacturing Gets a Recharge with Miniature Defibrillator
The miniature defibrillator CellAED® LifeSaver® will be manufactured in Australia from 2018, giving a fresh boost to the ever-evolving Australian manufacturing industry. The revolutionary new product is set to be exported globally to hundreds of countries.
According to a recent CSIRO study1, Australian Manufacturing still contributes more than 6% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employs 856,000 people, down from a high of 14% in 1995 when it employed more than a million people. However, like many industry sectors, manufacturing is not dying, but rather is being transformed.
‘The CellAED® LifeSaver® is a proudly Australian innovation, and thankfully there are pockets of high technology manufacturing thriving in this country that will enable us to manufacture our product on home soil,’ explained Rapid Response Revival CEO Leanne Knowles.
Rapid Response Revival has formed a separate manufacturing company RRR Manufacturing Pty Ltd that will be responsible for guiding the production of potentially billions of units of the CellAED® product range in the coming years.
Rapid Response Revival Managing Director Donovan Casey spoke about the challenge of inventing a low cost, miniature version of a fully automatic AED, ‘Our team has overcome some very significant engineering challenges to design the CellAED®. The technology we’re delivering in this very small package is incredibly clever and there is nothing like it anywhere in the world. We’re super excited to be manufacturing in Australia.’
Around 6 million people die every year around the world from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) (Out of Hospital)2, because an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) is not available inside 10 minutes. The CellAED® LifeSaver® is smaller, lighter and more mobile than existing AEDs, and will be available at around A$150.
Mr Casey added, ‘We believe this will enable and empower more people to purchase, carry and use an AED in an SCA emergency, increasing the survival rate from less than 1%2 globally to upwards of 50%.’
